Even nostalgia isn’t what it used to be and, at the very latest, it’s since the pandemic that our world seems irreversibly changed. In this article, Mareen Huffmeier, CEO at UNIBA Partners discusses her thoughts on the Risk Barometer 2022 published by Allianz – which discusses the most pressing risks considered among CEOs.
The role of a CEO is complex and multifaceted. In 2022, CEOs are grappling with complex economic markets, whilst having to make changes and drive transformation. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that CEOs have a lot to consider which might lead to sleepless nights. So what keeps CEOs up at night?
This article intends to analyse some of the risks and considerations discussed by The Allianz Risk Barometer 2022.
Defining the risks
With so many more staff working from home, working hybrid or fully nomad, the concept of ‘workplace’ itself has been redefined. In the meantime, flooding and other natural catastrophes have very badly hit companies operating in areas not previously considered particularly at risk.
Climate change is causing unprecedented and previously unimagined disruption impacting even shipping on the busy Rhine river. And that’s without counting the multifaceted impact of the war in Ukraine, coming in addition to the pandemic-related backlog in container shipping.
Our increased reliance on IT, automation, and what can broadly be called the Metaverse has dramatically increased our exposure to Cyber risks and particularly to ransom demands and fines by various regulatory bodies.
Geopolitical tension and regional conflicts further add to a very complex picture of risk for companies across the world. A structured way of thinking about these key exposures is critical. Individuals and organisations need facts and, in many instances, expert advice to plot their best options, both domestically and abroad, to help them think about their expansion plans and their international mobility.
So what keeps CEOs awake at night? The Allianz Risk Barometer 2022 provides an excellent discussion of key risk topics across different geographical reasons, including an overview of the most important global business risks in 2022. This report was compiled based on insights from over 2,600 risk experts in 89 countries.
